VINTGAR Visitors Centre

Welcome to the VINTGAR Visitor Centre, where we will be happy to provide you with all the information you need for an enjoyable experience exploring Vintgar Gorge in a safe and responsible manner.

Newly opened in 2024, the new VINTGAR Visitor Centre includes an information point, locally sourced food and drink, a creative souvenir shop and a rest area.

LOCALLY SOURCED FOOD AND DRINK AT VINTGAR GORGE

The small snack bar at the VINTGAR Visitor Centre has an outdoor terrace and serves local specialities. Gourmets will love the snacks from Hiša Linhart, the restaurant run by Uroš Štefelin, one of Slovenia’s top chefs, who holds both a Michelin star and a Michelin green star for sustainable practices and is strongly committed to the local community. Sandwiches from Hiša Linhart are Vintgar Gorge’s signature gastronomic treat. Many of the ingredients for the sandwiches come from local suppliers and farms in the Julian Alps. Enjoy a vegetarian version with Tolmin cheese or a meat version with local ham.

Another way to get your strength up at the VINTGAR Visitor Centre before your vintgaring expedition is with a Njamito “quick meal” in a bottle. Each bottle contains a complete plant-based meal with fruit, vegetable or chocolate. Available in apple pie, strawberry granola, spinach bowl and jaffa cake flavours, to drink on the spot or take with you.

For those with a sweet tooth, we recommend Conditus cakes and biscuits from family bakery Resman. Other local specialities well worth trying include ice cream made with goat’s milk from the Pr‘Ferčej farm, natural unfiltered beers from the Racon brewery and spirits and liqueurs from the family-run Mikelj Spirits.

SOUVENIRS AND GIFTS

The VINTGAR Visitor Centre also includes a souvenir shop. The wide range of gifts and souvenirs on offer includes postcards, fridge magnets, water bottles, mugs, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, T-shirts, caps, scarves, rucksacks and much more. We try to ensure that the creations of local artisans and craftspeople are well represented in our range of souvenirs.

NEW WELCOME TO VINTGAR GORGE

The renovated entrance building to the Vintgar Gorge is a blend of traditional Alpine architecture and modern, sleek architectural design. The entire renovation of the building was carried out with a focus on nature and human conservation, reducing pollution, and using natural materials and techniques. All new materials and elements are based on modern ecological guidelines for wood processing. Part of the building is completely glazed, offering a view of the Radovna River and providing a magnificent introduction to the experience of the Vintgar Gorge.
