How Jelovica got its tooth

Once upon a time, a witch lived on the Jelovica plateau. Said to be more than 150 years old, she spent her days collecting herbs and sending spells down into the valley, because of which the local farmers were afraid to till the soil. As her powers declined with advancing age, she was no longer able to gather as many herbs for her witchcraft.

One day, when she had failed to gather enough herbs, she was angrily casting spells over the edge of the plateau when she stumbled and fell into the depths. As she fell, her angry words echoed round the mountains: “Jelovica, as steep as before you shall not be, make a stump of tooth here for all to see!” And that is how Jelovica got its famous Hag’s Tooth.
