What you can see at this point

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.”
Isaiah 43:2

You are now entering the heart of the gorge, and its most picturesque part: Žumer’s Galleries. They are named after Jakob Žumer, the visionary mayor of Gorje who was one of the two bold adventurers to enter the gorge for the first time. Thanks to his great efforts, visits to the gorge were possible in as early as 1893.

The trail will lead you over the river and back again, with new views opening up at every step. A whole film’s worth of images awaits you.

High walls. Dead Woman’s Cliff, named after the unfortunate woman who once fell over it. Wild vegetation. Lone trees clinging to the walls of the gorge that create the effect of a unique Alpine jungle.

You will also pass through a narrow section known as Hell, where the cliffs rise so high that sunlight never penetrates the depths and where the walls are so close together that they almost touch.

The river twists and tumbles, shaping its path and creating a natural artwork that’s thousands of years old. Step carefully through its heart. It has been created by water and stone.
