Instructions and rules

FOR YOUR VISIT TO VINTGAR GORGE, IT IS MANDATORY TO HAVE:

  • Suitable hiking footwear and good physical fitness.
  • Use of a helmet, provided to visitors at the entrance point (VINTGAR Visitors Centre), to be returned at the end of the Vintgar Gorge Trail, at the exit point near the Šum waterfall.

WHO VINTGAR GORGE VISIT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR:

  • The trail traverses compacted rocky-sandy terrain and wooden walkways, making it unsuitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
  • Visits are not recommended for children under three years old due to the approximately 3-hour experience, with the entire circular route ranging from 4.3 to 5.7 km (depending on the chosen thematic trail).

FOR THE PRESERVATION OF NATURE AND YOUR SAFETY, IT IS NOT ALLOWED IN VINTGAR GORGE:

    1. climbing on fences and bridges, 
    2. disposing of waste and garbage, 
    3. leaving the marked paths, 
    4. picking plants, 
    5. approaching the river, 
    6. swimming in the Vintgar Gorge or at the Šum waterfall and, 
    7. use of drones.

TO ENSURE THE BEST EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE VISITING VINTGAR GORGE, PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHERS:

  • During your visit, avoid disturbing or obstructing other visitors with your behavior.
  • Follow the one-way path from the entrance point to the exit point at the Šum waterfall – moving in the opposite direction is not allowed.
  • Refrain from shouting, pushing, or running during your visit, as it may endanger yourself or others.
  • Your furry companions are welcome, but keep them leashed during the visit.
  • Respect animals and plants: do not touch moss, flowers, or vegetation, do not disturb or feed wildlife, and do not take rocks or plants with you.
  • We recommend using a refillable water bottle to reduce plastic use (a drinking fountain is available at the VINTGAR Visitors Centre).
  • Listen to and follow the instructions of your guide, signage, and Vintgar Gorge staff.
